Best Get Home Bag Checklist

Intro

When thinking of their get home bag majority of people don’t take into consideration the weight of the bag. Also people tend to run off the ideology of rather would have it and not need it than need it and not have it. And this is where it becomes troublesome to people who are starting in the preparedness mindset. So I am writing this blog for you. If the get home bag doesn’t meet your needs you can find more bug out bag checklists here : Bug in / But out by Evolution Tactical

Need/Want

Starting out we need to differentiate what you need vs what you want. In any survival situation you only need shelter, fire, water, and food. Now the time frames of needing these are as follows, respectively; 10 seconds, 10 minutes, 3 days, 21 days. Now, the shelter and fire being 10 seconds and 10 minutes is in SEVERE situations. Nonetheless they are super important and the timeframe of death or serious injury without these are still shorter than water and food. To achieve these things you don’t NEED a gun or a super tacticool plate carrier or chest rig. Now you might want them for sure but it is not important for survival.

What is a Get Home Bag?

A get home bag is a bag designed to be light and maneuverable only carrying what you need to get from where you are to your home. When planning this bag I put a lot into thought about if someone was carrying a firearm. You will notice that I didn’t include anything for firearms. Here’s the reason, if I was in a get home situation I would be trying everything in my power to not get into any engagements. I know that I would already have my plate carrier that has 2 pistol mags and 1 ar mag and a tourniquet. I have 1 ar mag for my belt and my holster holds my pistol and 2 additional mags. In an engagement I would be able to have a shoot out and still have some ammo left over. But that is not the point of a get home bag nor this blog.

Necessities Over Everything

As mentioned before the bag is supposed to be light. Containing only what is needed. When you get yours and start putting it together you will want to add more and more. For a true get home bag you only need the basics. Because the ultimate goal is to get home as fast as you can and hunker down there. So with all of this being said below is a list of items that should be in your get home bag. I will provide a pdf copy under the list for those of you that are going to actually put this to use. And for each of the items I will provide a few links for you to go and purchase items missing from your pack right away.
